Canadian storage for your Nextcloud.
Your Nextcloud server keeps the users, the sharing and the apps. Storm Buckets holds the files, on Canadian infrastructure, behind the same S3 settings Nextcloud already knows.
Hosted and Operated in Canada
Two ways to connect it.
External storage
Mount a bucket as a folder in Nextcloud. Files keep their names, so any S3 tool can read and copy them. Works on an instance you already run, All-in-One included.
Primary storage
Every file goes to the bucket on a new install. The folder tree lives in Nextcloud's database, so plan your backups and your exit before you choose it.
Your server stays yours
Nextcloud serves the files to your users itself. The bucket needs no public hosting, and only your server holds the key.
Build your settings.
Pick external or primary storage and type your bucket name. The builder fills in the Storm endpoint, the montreal-1 region and path-style addressing. Read the Nextcloud guide.
sudo -u www-data php occ files_external:create \
-c bucket=your-bucket \
-c hostname=montreal-1.buckets.stormdevelopments.ca -c port=443 -c use_ssl=true \
-c region=montreal-1 -c use_path_style=true -c legacy_auth=false \
-c key=<your key id> -c secret=<your secret> \
/Storm amazons3 amazons3::accesskey
Settings that trip every S3 backend.
Path-style addressing, the region, and Nextcloud's habit of creating the bucket itself are where S3 setups fail. Storm is path-style only, signs as montreal-1, and expects the bucket created in the dashboard first, so the builder sets all three.
Primary storage has an exit cost.
Files in primary storage are objects named by id, and the names live in Nextcloud's database. Leaving means exporting through Nextcloud. External storage keeps a tree any S3 tool can copy. See both in the guide →
Canadian storage for your team's files.
Your bucket sits on RAIDZ3-backed storage in Montreal. Our infrastructure disclosures name the provider and facility behind it.
Back up the bucket with restic and keep a second copy of anything you cannot afford to lose.
1 TB of Canadian storage. $9 CAD/month.
Start with one terabyte on montreal-1 and add capacity in 1 TB blocks as you grow. You pay for the blocks you choose, rather than each gigabyte used. Uploads and API requests are included. Data transfer never adds an overage charge. See the fair-use policy for transfer allowances and read throttling.
A block bills the same whether it holds 100 GB or 950 GB, so the invoice does not move as your team's files grow.
Before you get started
Storage requests are reviewed by hand. Capacity is subject to availability. Pay by Interac e-Transfer. All accounts must meet our Acceptable Use Policy.
