The Storm Guide

Who we are

Storm Developments builds cloud storage in Canada, on open source. Why we built it.

  • Cloud storage shouldn't need a training course. Getting started takes five minutes, and if it takes longer, we fix the product.

  • You can always leave. The storage engine and server agent are open source, and your data comes out over the same S3 API it went in on.

  • You can see where your data lives. Every endpoint you can buy space on has a page naming its provider, data centre and owners, and status shows its measured uptime.

Storm Buckets

Our focus today is Storm Buckets: managed S3-compatible object storage on Canadian hardware in Montreal. You get buckets, access keys, and an endpoint, everything your apps and tools already speak.

Two ways in: connect any S3 client (rclone, the AWS CLI, Obsidian), or open Files in your browser with nothing to install.

Paid storage is open on montreal-1: 1 TB blocks at $9 CAD a month, paid by Interac e-Transfer. Request space from your account. The alpha endpoint stays free for approved alpha members, with a 10 GB grant that becomes permanent once you make a bucket within 30 days of approval.

Why a guide

This guide is our single source of truth.

For customers, it answers the practical questions: how to use our products, what we support, and what you can expect from us. For anyone weighing Storm Developments, it shows what we stand for before you commit to anything.

Internally, it keeps us honest. If something we do contradicts something written here, the guide wins, or the guide gets updated and we explain why.
