Where to send a report
abuse@stormdevelopments.ca
This address reaches the operator directly. There is no form and no ticket queue in front of it.
We acknowledge every report within 48 hours of receiving it.
What to include
-
What you found, in your own words.
-
Where you found it: a URL, a bucket address, or a hostname.
-
How to reach you.
-
If you are reporting on behalf of someone else, who, and in what capacity.
For a copyright notice, also identify the work you hold rights in and your relationship to it.
A report that does not tell us where the content is cannot be acted on. The locator is the part we need most.
What happens next
We acknowledge within 48 hours. What follows depends on the category, because the right response to a phishing page and the right response to a copyright notice are not the same thing.
Child sexual abuse material. Reported to the Canadian Centre for Child Protection through Cybertip.ca and to law enforcement, as Canadian law requires. The account is terminated. There is no warning and no strike count. If you encounter this material elsewhere on the internet, report it directly to Cybertip.ca.
Malware, phishing, and active threats to people. Acted on immediately. These put visitors at risk and we do not wait on a notice cycle.
Copyright. Handled under Canada's notice-and-notice regime in the Copyright Act. We forward a valid notice to the customer responsible for the material. Forwarding a notice is not a finding that the complaint is correct. Your notice, including your identity, reaches the customer.
Everything else. Assessed against our Acceptable Use Policy. We normally contact the customer first and give them a reasonable opportunity to correct it. Section 11 of that policy lists the actions available to us, from making content private through to terminating the account.
What we do not do
We do not monitor or inspect the content our customers store. We act on reports.
We do not act as a judge of disputes between you and a customer. Where a complaint turns on a question we cannot resolve, for example a contested claim of ownership, that is a matter for the parties and, if it comes to it, a court.
If your own service is the subject of a report
If you operate a platform backed by a Storm bucket and accept uploads from your users, we deal with you, not with your users. You are responsible for what they store or serve through your account, and for maintaining your own way of receiving and acting on abuse reports. See Section 2 of the Acceptable Use Policy.
What we collect when you report
We keep what you send us: your name, your contact email, the locator you gave us, the body of your report, and your stated authority to make it. We use it to act on the report, to reply to you, and where the law requires it, to forward a copyright notice to the customer.
We do not log your IP address or your browser's user agent when you write to us. Our Privacy Policy describes how long we keep what you send and who can see it.
Security vulnerabilities
Reports of a vulnerability in Storm Buckets itself go to contact@stormdevelopments.ca, not to the abuse address. Testing the security of the service requires our prior written permission. Ask before you test.
Law enforcement
Requests from law enforcement go to contact@stormdevelopments.ca. Identify the authority you act under. We respond to lawful process and we preserve data where we are required to, as described in Section 12 of our Acceptable Use Policy.
