Pricing

Storm Buckets runs on named endpoints. A block is bought on one and spent
there, and the alpha endpoint is never billed.

At a glance

Paid storage on montreal-1

Paid storage is one block size: 1 TB at $9 CAD a month. Store 100 GB or
950 GB in it and the bill is the same. Stack blocks as you grow.

The floor is a terabyte because Storm Buckets is infrastructure for people
running workloads on it. A cheap sub-terabyte rung attracts the abuse traffic
that makes a platform unusable for the customers it is built for.

Cross a block and the next one kicks in at its listed price. There is no
metered overage. You pay for the capacity Storm has allocated to you.

How to buy

Blocks are requested in the web app and paid by Interac e-Transfer against a
Storm invoice. The steps are on the pricing page.

The alpha endpoint

An approved alpha tester holds a capacity grant on the alpha endpoint,
currently 70 GB. Nothing on the alpha endpoint is billed, during alpha or
after. Make one bucket within 30 days of approval and the grant is permanent.
Buying blocks on montreal-1 does not touch the grant, and the grant buys
nothing on montreal-1.

The alpha endpoint takes node software 1 to 14 days before any paid endpoint,
so keep another copy of what you store there. How to apply, the step-down and

What Storm never meters

Storage is the billed unit. These are not metered, on any endpoint:

• Ingress. Uploading data into Storm Buckets is not metered. No cap, no
  per-GB charge.

• API operations. GET, PUT, HEAD, LIST, DELETE, and admin calls are not
  metered, regardless of count.

• Buckets and keys. Neither is a billed unit, so Storm does not charge by
  bucket or key count. Make the ones your project needs.

AWS and GCP meter S3 API calls at fractions of a cent per thousand requests.
Small money, but it means your bill moves with your request count. Storm does
not meter API calls, so yours never does.

Egress

Every account gets a monthly egress allowance of 3x its capacity on each
endpoint (paid blocks on montreal-1, the grant on the alpha endpoint), reset
each calendar month. A 1 TB block is 3 TB out per month, a 70 GB grant is
210 GB.

Allowances are counted per endpoint because bandwidth is consumed at one. If
you hold capacity on both endpoints, each carries its own allowance and they
are not pooled.

Crossing the allowance slows your reads. It never stops them and is never
billed as overage. Writes keep working. Nothing is slowed today: the throttle
is built and switched on per endpoint, and it is on neither yet. The dashboard

Currency and billing

Prices are CAD. Storm's hardware suppliers bill Storm in CAD, so Canadian
customers see CAD end-to-end. Customers outside Canada are charged the CAD
rate, and their bank handles the FX conversion. Who leases Storm each endpoint's
hardware, and where it sits, is on
where your data lives.

What's TBD

• Redundant durability (3-zone). Standard storage today is single-zone.
  A 3-zone class, priced separately, is on the roadmap.

• Storage classes (archive, cold). One class today. Cheaper-but-colder may
  come later.
